Back In Anchorage

We're back! After several weeks of adventure across the state. We have been spending lots of time outdoors hiking, backpacking, camping, and casting a few lines. The start of our adventures began in the Fairbanks area where we spent a two days backpacking Granite Tors. Which started out as an innocent two day trip, and ended up being a tad bit longer. We started out at 8 p.m. (thank goodness for sunny Alaska summers!) we did not have to hike in the dark. We were able to see the sunset and sunrise as we turned our heads, the sun was setting on one side then we turned around to a beautiful sunrise around midnight.

As we got closer to the top the wind was really blowing, and it was about 45 degrees. We found a great place to camp that was only about 1/2 a mile from where we wanted to be, and it was well protected from the wind and rain. The next day the hike was BEAUTIFUL! We spent a lot of time going through soggy tundra, which was out in full bloom.
We had a fun time going by all of the tors they were so cool. Geologic formations like that are really amazing to see in person.

It was nice to finally accomplish this trip, we had been planing to do it for the past two years. It was lot of fun and we had a great time.

The next day we went north of Fairbanks and spent some time with some friends camping out and hiking down to the Chatinika River. Where we waded across in the FREEZING cold water, to a sand bar to have lunch. Then for the way back Josh built a ladder to climb up the cut bank out of willows. He even made his own rope. It was a fun experience and a lot of fun out in the Alaska wilderness. It was good to see friends again, even if it was just for a short visit.
The next stop on our trip was down to Delta Junction for a few days of fun with the family. We did all kinds of things, capture the flag, rode the 4-wheelers, the ladies did some sewing, and we made bath salts. We had a great time, and it was sad to leave but the summer is just getting started.
Fishing season is just beginning and we have some great plans! Out freezer is going to be so full by the end of the summer. I can't wait! This summer Change is coming not only to our freezer, but to the Michie home as well. We are finally prepared to buy our own home! We are ready for the new adventures that come with home ownership, and the freedom that it is going to bring to our lives.

The Best Two Years

May 16th is here again!
Summer is just around the corner, which means lots of fishing and camping! We are so excited to get out of the house and go explore this great land that we live in. We have been so blessed to be able to go backpacking in a few weeks, which will be beautiful! On the side of summer being so close, we have been married for two years! Which is such a blessing, life is full and complete with an eternal companion.
Tomorrow marks our two year anniversary, which is amazing. Josh is still away in Utah looking at the geology for his job unfortunately. However it just means that we will have a great reunion in one week! It is getting so close!! Until then plenty of time will be spent on working on a baby quilt for a dear friend, and a birthday present for my grandmother. It is nice to spread out all over the house with my sewing gear.
On a wildlife note, my neighbor and I have been out jogging almost every morning the past two weeks, and we saw a black bear in our neighborhood! Then a moose munching on willows in the creek right behind our house! Alaska is an amazing place, we are so blessed to live in a place where untouched wilderness is right out our back door.
